Can it really be this difficult?

Ok, I finally purchased a photo printer so I can print all my pictures adn scrapbook them, not that I don't already have enough to scrapbook without adding more. I thought this was great and researched the one I wanted. it turned out it was on sale so I got it!

I get the thing home and am setting it up when it gives me an error. This does not make me happy. After trying for a while online I decided to get some help from HP. Earnest (I don't believe that's his real name) and I spent quite some time troubleshooting only to discover that the ink cartridges, all SIX of them, that come with the printer are only "host" cartridges. Although they were only used for initialization and there is plenty of ink in them still, I was forced to go out and spend a bunch of money on ink.

Is it just me or do you find that incredibly insane?!! Even the people at Staples, where I purchased it, thought that was odd. I didn't purchase their extended warranty so they were pretty useless other than to show me the ink I needed.

I did write to HP and might still send them snail mail with my disgust over something so stupid. Why provide cartridges if they don't work? Why does it not say that you need to replace the cartridges right away? Was the HP help desk guy just too lazy or unqualified to fix the problem rather than tell me to go get more ink?

Argh, what a frustrating experience!

That's TOTAL INSANITY. I would feel ripped off too.

I think that's 100% BS. They are starter cartridges, therefore the cartridges should print. Unless it says it does not include ink then the guy was snowing you, I'd call back and speak to a supervisor. You could, also, just take the printer back.

I say contact Tara - and sic her on them!! Get that company to pony up a stack of coupons for ink cartridges! What a stupid system - a printer with cartridges that dont work.

Go get em!
